Philips 2200 Overview

Philips Series 2200 superautomatic espresso machines are available in two different models. The first generation of Philips 2200, identified by its model number EP2220/14, was launched with fewer specialty coffee options and a classic milk frother to make it slightly better than its predecessor, the Philips 1200 while sticking to the same user-friendly design.

Later, it was upgraded, and a pricier version was launched – EP2230/14, with an added coffee variety and the LatteGo milk frothing technology.

So, while you get the same core features in both the models, such as an intuitive touch display, a ceramic burr grinder, an AquaClean water filter system, and the double-cup option, the beverage options in the Philips 2200 – EP2230/14 increase to 3 and you get automated high-speed milk frothing.

Coffee Roast Level, Flavor and Grinding

Philips 2200 and 3200’s intelligent aroma extract systems and ceramic burr grinders allow you to adjust the flavor and strength of your beverages.

Instead of blade grinders, Philips has installed conical burr grinders in its automatic espresso machines for fine and uniform grinding. Moreover, you get 12 different grinding settings to adjust the grind size the way you like.

Similarly, you can adjust the aroma strength to find your preferred balance between water temperature and aroma extraction and brew the perfect blend.

So, whether you like it coarse or fine OR mild or strong, the Philips 3200 and 2200 know how to prepare it.

Functions and Settings

While the basic functions and settings of the Philips 2200 and 3200 are similar, the Philips 3200 justifies its high price tag with added features and options. It is easy to spot the difference in their control panels.

The Philips 2200 gives you 2 options for hot beverages. You can make espressos or regular coffees by selecting the default settings on the intuitive touch display. Even the options for ‘My Coffee Choice’ are limited. You can only adjust the aroma strength (coffee bean icon) or the quantity of the beverage in each cup by selecting the appropriate buttons.

Contrary to that, the Philips 3200 LatteGo offers more options. You can make 5 delicious beverages from the same coffee beans by pressing either espresso, Americano, coffee, cappuccino, or latte macchiato on the touchscreen display. Also, its ‘My Coffee Choice’ panel includes an added setting for adjusting the quantity of the froth.

Milk Frothing

If you are in the mood for rich and creamy lattes or cappuccinos, with the Philips 2200 and 3200 espresso machines, it is now doable. The Philips 2200 has a classic milk frother.

The stainless steam wand heats the milk and passes pressurized air into it, transforming it into its thick, foamy consistency. You can add the froth to your espressos or regular coffee for velvety flavor. However, you will need a stainless steel pitcher to hold and forth your milk.

In comparison, the Philips 3200 comes with an in-built LatteGo milk frothing system. The automated frother mixes milk and air at high speed in a milk carafe and directly pours the foam into your coffee through a separate spout. Hence, less fuss, less mess, and a richer taste.

Water Filter System

Philips 2200 and 3200 are compatible with the AquaClean water filtration system. The price of the product includes a free AquaClean water filter that can purify water for up to 5,000 cups of coffee without descaling.

You can follow the step-by-step installation process to install the AquaClean filter in the water tank, which has a capacity of 1.8 liters. AquaClean absorbs impurities, like chlorine and calcium, to prevent clogging and formation of limescale and ensures the usage of clean water for great-tasting coffee every time.

Power Consumption

Both Philips 3200 and 2200 use around 1,500 W of electricity to brew a cup of coffee. While it may seem like high power consumption, most superautomatic coffee machines use between 600 W and 1,500 W of power to make coffee with a touch of a button.

Portability

Philips 2200 and 3200 were designed to be portable. Both measure 246 x 371 x 433 mm in dimension and can easily be adjusted on packed countertops or in busy office pantries.

However, the Philips 2200 is comparatively more compact and portable, as it weighs 16.5 lbs (7.5 kg) compared to the Philips 3200’s 17.6 lbs (8 kg) weight reading. It is because the milk carafe for Philips 3200 LatteGo is bulkier than Philips 2200’s sleek steam wand and can carry 0.26 liters of milk.
